The major owner of the hotel chain known as The Dorchester Collection is the Sultan of Brunei . The Sultan is one of the world’s richest men and owns the Beverly Hilton Hotel. He was picketed there recently by many including Jay Leno because of his support for Sharia law which in Brunei includes government actions such as:
Gay men caught having sex are stoned to death. Some thieves have their hands amputated. Women who become pregnant while unmarried can be jailed or fined.
The 62 year old Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah has at least 20 billion dollars in assets.
“The Dorchester Collection, an international group of luxury hotels, is owned by Brunei Investment Agency, a branch of Brunei’s Ministry of Finance, and includes properties in London, Paris, Rome, Milan and Geneva, as well as the Beverly Hills Hotel and the Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles, where protesters have denounced the new law.” wrote the New York Times which reported the boycott will extend to employees of Richard Branson’s The Virgin Group as well as customers of cruise.co.uk
